The Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) is a public school division that welcomes high‑school aged international students and values the diverse perspectives they bring to schools and classrooms. LRSD offers affordable, high‑quality educational experiences with full immersion in English or French learning environments. Alongside full‑year and semester programs, students can also participate in a unique land‑based summer program that promotes language development through hands‑on, experiential learning rooted in real‑life use of English.
LRSD provides safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments grounded in student‑centered approaches to teaching and learning. Students are encouraged to express their individuality while engaging with a sound curriculum delivered through high‑quality instruction. This foundation of academic excellence is further enriched by award‑winning band programs, more than 20 extra‑curricular sports, comprehensive libraries, well‑equipped computer facilities, science laboratories, theatres, and gymnasiums. LRSD champions student autonomy and offers programming that supports diverse interests across arts and humanities, STEM fields, social sciences, and practical or applied studies.
Students studying in the LRSD Go Global International Student Program are supported by a caring and dedicated team that arranges medical insurance, greets students at the airport, conducts weekly school check‑ins, assists with course selection, provides orientation sessions, transfers out‑of‑country credits, monitors attendance, maintains communication with agents and/or guardians, and coordinates homestay placements.
LRSD Go Gobal’s in-house Homestay Program uses a personalized matching process to place students with families whose interests align with their own. The Homestay Coordinator and LRSD Go Global Team conducts home visits to ensure continued safety and suitability, maintains regular communication with families and students, supports conflict resolution, and responds to off‑hour emergencies. Homestay families play a vital role in students’ experience, offering a welcoming environment where they can immerse themselves in Canadian culture, daily life, and conversational English or French. LRSD Go Global families put the home in homestay!

About Manitoba:
Manitoba is a prairie province located in the heart of Canada. Known for its four distinct seasons, it is home to more than 110,000 lakes and a population of over 1.5 million people. The province sits just an hour and a half north of the U.S. border. Manitoba’s capital city, Winnipeg, has a population of more than 850,000. It is a beautiful, affordable city — an ideal place to live, learn, and grow.
About Winnipeg:
Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba, is known as the cultural cradle of Canada. Located at the historic meeting place of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, the city is home to people from more than 100 cultural backgrounds and languages, creating a welcoming, diverse, and vibrant community. This rich cultural heritage is reflected in Winnipeg’s world-class arts, festivals, food, and year-round celebrations.
Students quickly discover that Winnipeg offers the perfect balance of opportunity and quality of life. As a growing and affordable city with a strong economy, it is home to excellent schools, colleges, and universities, making it easy to connect with other students from around the world. From iconic destinations like The Forks, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet to renowned festivals such as Folklorama, Festival du Voyageur, and Thin Air: Winnipeg International Writers Festival, there is always something new to experience.
Life in Winnipeg is active, exciting, and connected to nature. Students can cheer on professional sports teams like the Winnipeg Jets (NHL hockey), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL football), Winnipeg Sea Bears (basketball) and Winnipeg Goldeyes (baseball), explore beautiful parks and trails, skate along the city’s famous winter river trail, shop at our large suburban malls or enjoy one of more than 1,100 restaurants representing cuisines from around the world. Big enough to offer world-class entertainment and amenities, yet small enough to feel friendly and easy to navigate, Winnipeg is a place where students can truly feel at home.
About Louis Riel School Division:
The Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) is located in south-east Winnipeg and includes both St. Vital and St. Boniface. Bordered by the Red River to the west and the Seine River to the east, the LRSD community offers many parks, trails, community centres, and playgrounds in safe, quiet neighbourhoods. LRSD is in close proximity to many universities, post-secondary institutions and downtown Winnipeg.
The Louis Riel School Division (LRSD Go Global) operates an in-house Homestay Program designed to immerse international students in Canadian culture and support their English/French language learning. LRSD Go Global homestay families put the home in homestay. They treat their international students as members of their own family and include students in family activities, holidays, and experiences. In return, students are expected to contribute to the operation of the family household.
Students can expect a private room in a secure home environment, a family that has been personally selected, and a positive atmosphere in which to study and live. LRSD Go Global works closely with both Homestay families and international students to ensure a positive experience for all.
Students have the opportunity to explore their interests both inside and outside the classroom, enriching their educational experience and helping them build lifelong skills and friendships. Every high school offers a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, including more than 20 sports and student clubs, as well as theatre, band, arts programming, and specialized sports academies. These activities encourage personal growth, foster meaningful connections, and make the student experience both rewarding and fun.
Additionally, LRSD Go Global hosts monthly activities designed specifically for international students. These events provide opportunities to meet new friends, experience Canadian culture, and create memories. Past activities have included indoor beach volleyball, dodgeball tournaments, museum visits, hockey games, and more.
