The Okanagan Skaha School District is located in the sunny interior of British Columbia, in the region known as the Okanagan Valley. The district includes the communities of Penticton, Summerland, Naramata and Kaleden, which are situated between two sparkling fresh water lakes, lush vineyards and orchards and majestic mountains. Surrounded by world class recreational opportunities and sensational scenery, the communities are well known for their beautiful weather, numerous beaches and healthy lifestyle.
The Penticton area has a population of 60,000 people with all the amenities of a larger city, but the friendliness and safety of a smaller community. The communities are primarily English speaking and offer diverse activities for those who enjoy the outdoors.
These communities are very popular, year round tourist destinations with warm, sunny summers and mild, dry winters. Spring and summer outdoor recreation activities abound: Golfing, tennis, hiking, mountain biking on the Kettle Valley Railway and floating down the river channel between Okanagan and Skaha lakes are all very popular. Winter recreational opportunities at Apex Mountain Ski Resort include down hill and cross country skiing; snowshoeing and sledding. The local airport is ten minutes from Penticton while the International Airport in Kelowna is less than an hour away by car. Vancouver is short a 4 1/2 hour drive from Penticton.
