Battle River School Division is a large geographic district located in central Alberta. Our schools are located in small, safe, welcoming communities. Battle River School Division’s principal city is Camrose. Camrose is a modern city with a population of about 18 500. The city is large enough to have all the amenities of larger cities but remains a safe, warm and welcoming community. There are numerous small towns within the region with communities that also provide welcoming and supportive environments for international students. The language of instruction and everyday use is English. International students have an excellent opportunity to be immersed in the English language and experience the cultural aspects of life in Canada. Camrose is conveniently located within 45 minutes of the Edmonton International airport.
Battle River School Division’s supervised Homestay program will ensure that students are matched and placed in a family with compatible values. Students may select single parent families, families with same aged children, younger children, or just adults. Homestay staff make every effort to accommodate interests and hobbies. Families are carefully selected and interviewed. A home inspection is completed before a family is approved and a criminal record search must be completed and reference letters submitted. The support and guidance offered by our host families will ensure that students adjust quickly to their new community. Host families are encouraged to include the student in all family activities. Working as a team, our program staff, school teachers, principals and host families all work together so that students have a successful study period, learn English quickly and in context and return to their home country having had a true Canadian experience. Our staff maintain regular communication with the student and families.
Students have available a wide variety of athletic and fine art activities as well as student leadership and yearbook clubs. Students are encouraged to participate fully in their school.
