Riverside School Board

Located immediately south and east of Montreal in the Montéregie region, Riverside School Board is home to over 9,500 students registered in elementary, secondary, adult and career education programs. We operate 19 elementary schools and 4 high schools, as well as an adult and career center serving the residents of over 98 municipalities. International Students have the opportunity to study with us at the elementary, high-school, adult education and vocational level, and may also join us for our Group Short Term program, as well as our Summer Language School.

Riverside places a great deal of emphasis on our students’ success and their achievements. We take pride in the fact that Riverside consistently places among the top five and has one of the lowest dropout rates of the 72 public school boards in Quebec, both English and French. This outstanding achievement says much about our school board. Our long history of innovation in education, our focus on bilingualism, the quality of our teachers, all combine to make Riverside a different school board where learning is an enriching lifetime experience.

The Montérégie is known for its vineyards, orchards, spectacular panoramas, delicious products, as well as for the Monteregian Mountains, from which it draws its name. The region is both urban (second in terms of population) and rural. The Montérégie’s economy is based on agriculture and the production of goods and services. Tourism also makes up a significant portion of the economy. In terms of climate, the Montéregie area, located in the country’s southern border, is characterized by mild springs, warm summers, pleasantly crisp autumns and invigorating cold winters. The Montéregie region offers excellent opportunities to learn French and English in an immersion atmosphere that includes many cultural and fun sporting activities all year round!

Every host family is different—just like every student. What our hosts have in common is that they want to provide a safe, caring environment for our students. We choose hosts who will provide the same comfortable, healthy and supportive home life they would ask a host family to provide for their own children. Why do we trust our hosts? Because we’ve met them in person and toured their homes; we’ve talked with them about their experiences in the world and in Canada, and we’ve helped them adjust to being hosts. We have also asked students to evaluate them. If they fail to meet our and our students’ expectations, we won’t work with them again. Some host families will have children at home and others will not but all love young people and are chosen for the love and care they can provide.

Our schools offer a wide array of activities that cater to the unique and individual tastes of our students. From the arts, sports, culture, science and everything in between, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and clubs that reflect their own personal desires.

Throughout the year, we organize activities for our students and their host families to participate in. Apple picking, the Sugar Shack, Winter carnivals and guided tours of Old Montreal are just a number of activities we organize to help maximise our students’ experience. We also provide our host families with up-to-date events happening in the Montérégie area, so they may discover them with their students and families.
