Since 1985, Powell River School District, has provided the highest standards in International education to students from around the world. With a limited International student enrollment, International students enjoy small class sizes along with 25 Canadian students. Immersed in a community of 100 percent English speaking people, teachers, host families and Canadian classmates, International students excel at all levels of academic studies at a rapid pace.

In Powell River we believe the homestay family is the most important aspect of the International program. In order for International students to succeed and excel in their studies, and have a truly enriching experience, they must feel welcome, safe, comfortable, content and secure in their homestay environment.
All International students are placed with 100 percent English speaking Canadian families in single-family homes carefully selected, screened, interviewed, registered and monitored by our Homestay Coordinator.
The Coordinator is responsible for finding the best possible homestay match for all international students. It is the Coordinator’s role to ensure all students are secure and content.
All students are provided with their own private bedroom, bedding, closet, chest of drawers, desk, Internet access, shared laundry, kitchen and bathroom facilities, with 3 meals and snacks each day.
In Powell River our International students are treated with the utmost respect, consideration, care and attention, as an equal member of the homestay family.
Our homestay families provide a ‘home-away-from-home’ for all International students with the security and care of a loving family and a cultural education in a home setting which will allows students to experience “true” Canadian living at it’s best!
Due to Powell River’s mild climate, many activities are available year round. Clubs, sports and activities are offered after school hours. Activities take place at school and within the community of Powell River at sports fields, gymnasiums, fitness/athletic clubs, recreation facilities, forest/mountain trails, lakes, ocean, beaches, theatres and community centres.
Powell River has one of the world’s most magnificent coral reefs with spectacular ocean marine life and is known as Canada’s Scuba Diving Capital and winter diving HOT SPOT. Powell River hosts world-renowned International Music Festivals, International Art Exhibits, International boating and outdoor sports events, and is home to Powell River Music Academy, Performing Arts Centre, 18-hole championship golf course, regulation hockey arenas and Olympic swimming pool
