The International Student Program selects local families to participate in a unique international experience by inviting an international student into their family to provide a caring, supportive & inclusive Canadian home. This environment assists students to develop their English skills, complete their studies and engage in activities with the host family to learn more about Canadian culture. Students are provided with a private room and three meals a day, seven days a week. Students and families are carefully matched to accommodate interests and hobbies to ensure a positive experience.
Families are personally selected and interviewed, along with a criminal background and reference check. Each host family participates in an in-home interview, an orientation session, annual review meetings and ongoing program communication and support. The homestay coordinators support the families with regular communication/feedback, social events and professional learning opportunities.
Each week the homestay coordinator visits the students to check on their academic progress, homestay experience and social/personal well-being. Every effort is made to accommodate interests and hobbies to ensure a positive cultural and learning experience.
