Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is very large and diverse, stretching west from the capital city of Edmonton to the Canadian Rockies and Jasper National Park, and north to the picturesque town of Grande Cache. We are a rural school division that features five distinct communities. Evansburg, a farming and ranching area located one hour west of Edmonton, is our smallest community with a population of 1000 people. Edson, population 8,500, is situated midway between Edmonton and Jasper National Park. Hinton, the Gateway to the Rockies, has a population of 10,000 and is only 20 minutes east of Jasper National Park. Grande Cache, population 4000, is situated in the mountains North of Jasper National Park. Grande Cache is 5 hours from Edmonton. Jasper, a community of 5000, is located in Jasper National Park, a popular tourist destination and World Heritage Site. Our rural communities are small, safe and friendly. Students either walk to school, ride their bikes, or take school buses. Our district offers international students the opportunity to experience rural living with several options of life style from living on a farm, or in a small rural town, or in a mountain community.
Our international students enjoy making happy memories as a member of a welcoming Canadian family. Our homestay families…
• are carefully selected and screened
• are enthusiastic about receiving international students
• will include their international student in family activities
• will provide a private bedroom with study area
• will ensure nutritious meals and snacks
