Eastern Townships School Board

Welcome to the Eastern Townships International Student Program. The Eastern Townships (ETSB), in partnership with New Frontiers (NFSB) school district is renowned for providing an outstanding 21st century education to students.

Situated in the southern shore of Quebec, we cover a territory that includes some of the most beautiful scenery in Canada. Surrounded by lakes and mountains, our schools are situated in suburban environments that offer safe and secure learning environments. Yet, we are in very close proximity to the city of Montreal, often referred to as “Canada’s Cultural Capital”.

Our schools are fully equipped with facilities that allow for a range of programs, including International Baccalaureat (IB), concentrations in Sciences, the Arts and Sports, as well regular or enriched English and French Immersion academic programs. Our schools also provide you with opportunities to participate in a variety of extra-curricular clubs (robotics, journalism, band, drama, etc.), sports teams and travel.

In studying with us, you will live and learn in a dynamic bilingual environment and benefit from a true cultural experience. We look forward to welcoming you amongst us!

Quebec Nearly 7.5 million people live in Québec, on a landmass 1.7 million km in size (three times the size of France or five times that of Japan). The great urban metropolis of Montréal accounts for nearly half of Québec’s population while Québec City, the capital of the Québec nation, has a population of about 700,000.

Experience Quebec’s European flair and rich heritage. French is the language spoken at home by 83% of Quebecers, while 11% speak English and 6% another language. The Eastern Townships Less than an hour east from Montreal and close to the Quebec City region (120 km), the Eastern Townships geographic region borders the US for more than 300 km. This area is renowned for its beautiful countryside, scenery, safety and friendly mix of both English and French communities.

In terms of climate, the Eastern Townships, located in the country’s southern border, is characterized by mild springs, warm summers, pleasantly crisp autumns and invigorating cold winters. The Eastern Townships region offers excellent opportunities to learn French and English in an immersion atmosphere that includes many cultural and fun sporting activities all year round!

Families interested in hosting international students must go through a rigorous selection process. The ETSB promotes their host family program within its schools, amongst students, teachers, administrators or bilingual families who live within the same communities where schools are located.

After having sent an application form to the International Student Program (ISP) office, the family’s information is screened and processed in order to make sure our international students will be placed in a great home. The ETSB makes sure each family can provide: a furnished room, 3 nutritious meals a day and a wholesome family environment. The ETSB also does a police check, interviews each family member and does a full and thorough inspection of the house.

Families that are selected may come from different backgrounds and origins. These families tend to have middle to upper socioeconomical status. They vary in number, from having younger or older children, to even some with no children or who have already left home. Some families are Anglophone and others Francophone. The international student has the opportunity to choose whether he or she wants a French or English speaking family based on availability.

A homestay coordinator ensures a positive integration of all international students through regular visits to the homes and by organizing meet-and-greet activities for families and students throughout the year.

Each one of our ETSB High Schools are well & fully equipped, they include:
