Surrey Schools

In British Columbia, more than 85 per cent of parents choose public education, which offers a standard curriculum and government-certified teachers. Well funded by the BC government, public school provide an exciting selection of academic and elective courses, as well as enriching extra-curricular activities.

All Surrey schools provide the same high standard of academic and elective programming but vary in size, specialization and location within the City of Surrey. Integrated into regular classes, international students receive welcome support from school staff and friendly Canadian students. English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is provided, as needed.

International students who successfully complete all requirements receive a graduation diploma known as the B.C. Dogwood Diploma: the same one awarded to local secondary school students.

Thanks to the Surrey School District, international students learn and live well, receiving a strong foundation in academic success combines with a safe, comfortable, and healthy Canadian lifestyle.

Surrey, “The City of Parks,” has six distinct town centres in rural and suburban neighbourhoods. The City of White Rock is a tranquil, oceanfront area clustered around a sandy beach, promenade, restaurants and shops. Both communities are friendly and family oriented. Rapid public transit links Surrey to metropolitan Vancouver, allowing international students to enjoy the benefits of that dynamic city.

Surrey Schools does not provide homestay accommodation, but refers clients to a homestay service provider for assistance. The District is committed to ensuring homestay arrangements comply with the BC Human Rights Code and requests or preferences expressed by international students which violate the Code will be rejected by homestay service providers. The District recognizes international students come to Canada to improve their English language skills and English must be the primary language spoken in the home of all of the homestay hosts. Any International students seeking a host family or for local Surrey and White Rock families interested in becoming a host family, are directed to our website surreyschools.ca to contact the agencies directly.

Surrey and White Rock offer a great range of artistic and athletic actives, from world-class sports facilities to top performance venues. Within the District of Surrey, students can enjoy Canada’s warmest climate. The region’s comfortable summers and mild winters provide year-round opportunities for golf, tennis, hiking, and cycling. With the mountains, ocean and lakes nearby, popular recreational choices are skiing, snowboarding, sailing, swimming, and fishing. Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular programs, athletics, and school-based clubs, from music and drama to soccer, football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, hockey, and track & field.
